What the name means

pax

/paks/rhymes with relax

noun · Latin

1.Peace.

Many languages say it as a greeting or a blessing: salaam, shalom, shanti. We named it Pax because a new tab you open a hundred times a day should give you a little of it.

Read the story behind it

Why we built it this way

Your day is loud. We checked.

Before designing a single screen, we read the research on what wears people down. Every part of Pax answers one of these.

01 · Calm

2 min

Between pings for the busiest workers. Microsoft, 2025.

Fewer things asking for you.

Zen mode keeps only the clock and the photo. Frosted glass softens a busy picture. The search bar can wait until you point at it. Try it: switch the noise off.

02 · Focus

47 sec

How long attention stays on one screen, down from about 2½ minutes in 2004. Gloria Mark, Attention Span, 2023.

One thing at a time, with the right sound.

Name your focus, start the timer and put on rain, a stream or brown noise. The sounds are made live in your browser, so there’s nothing to download. Press play: it’s the real thing.

25:00Focus

Demo speed: a second is a minute.

In five experiments, a moderate hum of sound helped creative work (Mehta, Zhu and Cheema, 2012).

03 · One page

1,200

App switches a day in the teams HBR studied, 2022.

Every calendar on one sheet of glass.

Google, iCloud, Outlook, any CalDAV server and any .ics link, side by side in your colours. Bring them together, then add something the way you’d say it.

04 · Remember

26%

Of missed appointments come down to forgetting. Patient Preference and Adherence, 2017.

A quiet nudge, right where you look.

Your phone already pings dozens of times a day. Pax doesn’t add to the pile: before a meeting, one line appears in your agenda with Join and Snooze, and a task tells you when it’s due. Drag the time and see.

05 · Your world

40%

Avoid the news at least sometimes. Reuters Institute, 2025.

The news you chose, and nothing else.

Pick your sources and topics, follow your teams live and keep an eye on markets. It stays in a panel until you ask for it, so the page stays calm.

Example headlines, teams and prices. In Pax they’re live, from the sources you pick.

    06 · Private

    81%

Worry how companies use their data. Pew Research Center, 2023.

    Your day stays yours.

To-dos, notes, habits and settings live in your browser, with no account needed. With Plus they sync through a private folder in your own Google Drive that only Pax can open. None of it is stored on our servers.

    07 · Faith

    44%

Of US adults pray every day. Pew Research Center, 2025.

Prayer times and a passage, for six faiths.

Worked out from where you are, in your tradition’s own words, with a gentle reminder before each one. All of it free.

    Quran and Hadith

    فَإِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا

“But lo! with hardship goeth ease.”
