About Pax

Pax means peace.

Why it’s called that, why I made it, and why most of it is free.

The name

pax

/paks/rhymes with relax

noun · Latin

1.Peace.

Many languages say it as a greeting or a blessing: salaam, shalom, shanti. You open a new tab a hundred times a day, so each one should give you a small moment of peace, not one more thing asking for your attention.

Why I made it

A neat new tab, without the paywall.

I started building Pax because I couldn’t find a neat new tab for Chrome. There were a few, but almost all of their best features were paid.

So in Pax, most features are free, and I intend to keep them free, so everyone can enjoy it.

Whenever I felt a feature should be there, I added it. If there’s one you’d love to see, tell me. Your favorite might be next.

— Abdullah, maker of Pax

Free, and staying free

Most of Pax is free, and I mean to keep it that way.

No ads, no account needed. This is what everyone gets, for good.

  • The glass calendar: one connected account and any .ics link
  • Quiet reminders, to-dos, notes and journal
  • Focus timer and background sounds
  • Zen mode, frosted glass and the glass search bar
  • Prayer times and daily passages for six faiths
  • Markets (five), scores (three teams), news (five sources)
  • Daily photos and twelve languages

A few extras, like sync between computers and your own photos, are in Pax Plus for people who want everything. See what’s in each plan.

Built from wishes

Your favorite feature could be next.

Ask for the feature you want, or vote on what others asked for. Every suggestion is read.
