Bonjourr alternatives for when you want your calendar too

Bonjourr is a lovely minimal start page. If you also want your calendar, reminders and focus tools on it, here are the alternatives.

Updated · 3 min read

Bonjourr is one of the nicest minimal start pages around: free, open source, private, and quick to make your own. It’s deliberately light on features. If you’ve found yourself wanting a little more, here’s where to look.

What Bonjourr does well

A clean clock and greeting, quick links, a search bar, notes, quotes, custom fonts and backgrounds, and custom CSS. It runs in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, says it collects no data, and asks for no account. If that’s all you need, keep it.

When you might want more

  • You want to see today’s meetings without opening another tab.
  • You’d like a reminder before a call with a Join button.
  • You want a focus timer and background sounds on the same page.
  • You pray and want prayer times where you’ll see them.

Pax: minimal when you want, useful when you need

Pax can be as bare as Bonjourr: Zen mode keeps only the clock and the photo, frosted glass softens the picture, and the search bar can hide until you point at it. When you need more, it’s there: every calendar you use on one sheet of glass, quiet reminders, to-dos, notes, the focus timer and sounds, all free, plus prayer times for six faiths. Eight curated typefaces keep it looking considered. No account is needed, and your data stays in your browser.

Other options

Momentum adds a daily focus line and a Google or Outlook calendar for free; its timer, sounds and notes are part of its paid plan. Tabliss, through its maintained fork TablissNG, is another open-source page with more widgets than Bonjourr.

Questions people ask

Is Bonjourr free?

Yes. Bonjourr is free and open source, and its store listing says it collects no data.

Is Pax as private as Bonjourr?

Pax keeps your to-dos, notes and settings in your browser and needs no account. It talks to your calendar provider directly from your browser. It isn’t open source.
